Coronal Polishing 1001 Procedure used to remove stain and plaque from the enamel surfaces of the teeth, after the removal of hard deposits such as calculus from the tooth surfaces.

Sealant Placement 1002 Thin composite resin coating painted on the posterior chewing surfaces of teeth (premolars and molars) to prevent tooth decay.

Coronal Scaling 1003 Coronal scaling above the gumline, supragingivally on patients under 12 years of age

BLS CPR 1004 CPR for victims of all ages for both single and multirescuer team.

Included in the Coronal Polishing course will be concept and experiences in (1) ethics and jurisprudence; (2) plaque and material alba; (3) intrinsic and extrinsic stain; (4) abrasive agents; (5) use of a slow speed hand-piece, prophy cup and occlusal polishing brush; (6) infection control. The clinical instruction will include work performed on a classmate. In addition, each participant must follow the OSHA guidelines for infection control and use of clinical Personal Protective Equipment (i.e. gloves, mask, eyewear, and clinic gown)

Certificate granted after successful completion and verification. VERIFICATION FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED AND SENT. Verification Forms The following are the eligibility requirements.
1. Candidate must be 18 years or older.
2. Candidate must have one thousand (1000) or more hours of dental assisting experience.
3. Verification Forms must be completed and course fee paid.
4. Each participant must follow the OSHA guidelines for infection control, must wear scrubs and bring their own safety glasses and lab coat for the clinical portion.
5. Each participant must agree to act as a patient for coronal polishing
6. Upon completion of the course, participants must perform clinical competency on patients under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist or dental hygienist.
Karen Wallace of Moline, IL is the founder of Illinois Dental Assisting (IDA). IDA was created because of a need for advanced dental assistant training. It is well established that dentistry is trending towards expanded function of dental assistants. Illinois has set certification rules that can allow assistants the option of performing procedures that were formerly reserved for licensed dentists. She is educated and licensed as a Dental Hygienist. Previously, she was a Certified Dental Assistant. She is passionate about teaching the skills necessary to competently perform advanced dental assisting functions. She has produced many classes of highly trained dental assistants. She is widely recognized for providing well-trained dental assistants to the local dental community.
